It’s a great story, with great characters, but it’s growing stale by this point. The idea of doing ANOTHER Persona 4 adaptation less than two years after the first one ended remains utterly insane, and while this new version does try and distinguish itself by doing a few things different, at the end of the day it’s still that same story. Although I’m pretty tired of Persona 4 at this point, I’m still willing to see how this unfolds. The first trailer for the Golden anime started with the end of the game Narukami seems to be picking all the cheesy, suave options this time around Izanagi is powerful enough to nuke thousands of shadows at once (Maziodyne?) and they seem to be skipping over the important plot bits to the next batch of new content that was added in Golden. Still, I can’t help but shake the feeling that this anime is deliberately playing on our knowledge, and I kind of hope they’re presenting it as a NG+ file. I don’t think you’ll see many complaining about that, but it does mean that newcomers will want to watch the original series if they find themselves interested in Chie Rise Persona 4.Īny of us who care about Persona 4 probably know the intro by heart at this point, and this version doesn’t tread any real new ground apart from jamming Golden‘s fanfic-self-insert-character Marie into the mix. I didn’t complete her social link personally, so I’m using this as an excuse to see the content that I missed.īesides that, the content that was covered in the earlier anime is being blitzed through in favour of showing new content. That said, it’s Marie’s inclusion that is pulling people in, as we finally get to see an animated version of the new story that was added in the remake. I wouldn’t quite go as far as to say that I’m sold on this retelling, but I must admit that seeing this looks awfully like a “new game+”, given Narukami’s confidence and ability to destroy a Dynasty Warriors-like army of shadows, is making me much more interested. However, that was then, and I, like many others, was failing to see exactly what the point of doing a Golden anime was, especially when they said they were starting from the beginning of the story. I eventually bought Golden on the Vita and finished it, enjoying it even though I knew what was going to happen because of the anime. I’m sure there are reasons why people didn’t enjoy that particular adaptation, but for a guy who hadn’t touched the game at that point, it was quite good fun. ![]() ![]() I thought the Persona 4 anime was pretty good. A lot like Persona 4 The Animation, only this time with an extra lady! Oh, and there’s some plot stuff and a reduced episode count and apparently Kanji shows up in episode two and did you see mysterious fox? Man he’s adorable… Euri’s verdict: Harem End
